What Is 14k Gold-Fill?
· By Mana for Men
Most jewellery sold as gold is gold plated: a thin film of gold laid over brass or copper. On a bracelet worn every day, that film wears through in months. 14k Gold-Fill is built differently, and the difference decides how long a piece lasts.
How Gold-Fill is made
A layer of solid 14k gold is bonded to a brass core under heat and pressure. By the industry standard, gold makes up at least a twentieth of the piece's weight. That's many times the gold in plating, in a layer thick enough to wear for years.
Why it matters for daily wear
Plating is measured in microns, and a shirt cuff or watch strap rubs it away. Gold-Fill holds its colour under the same wear, and with basic care it won't flake or peel. For a piece you put on every morning, that durability is the point.
Gold-Fill or solid gold
Solid 14k gold lasts longer still and costs many times more. Gold-Fill is where durability, look and price meet for a piece worn every day.
Where Mana uses it
Every Archetype in Inner Alchemy closes with 14k Gold-Fill: the clasp, spacer beads and accent beads. Intentions use sterling silver. Each piece is made to order by hand in Queensland, Australia. To keep it looking right, read the Care Guide.
